In December 2021, I went back to the US again to finish my college degree and made plans to spend my summer break back in Japan. That summer was the last time I was able to work at Rudiez Studios, since the owner and great friend of ours, Jimmy MacGillivray, was planning on selling the building the following fall. With three months in the studio, and knowing that this would be our last time at Rudiez, we got fast to work. The result of these final sessions at Rudiez Studios is Tetsu’s self-titled EP. We were joined by drummer Hideki Enomoto, who played on all of my own original music recorded in Japan. The songs were sent to my lifelong collaborator and friend Roland Lim (www.mixingbyrolandlim.com) for mixing and mastering. Although these were the last sessions at Rudiez Studios, they marked the beginning of a fruitful production partnership between Tetsu and I. Tetsu’s follow-up release, a full-length album, has already been recorded and is in post-production at this time. I’m absolutely thrilled to help realize Tetsu’s vision and share it with the world. Stay tuned. Tyler Nimon

Liner Notes by Tyler

I first met Tetsu in the summer of 2018, when he was playing a gig at Bar Alchemy in Kobe, Japan. At that time, I was living in a sharehouse directly above the bar. One night, I heard someone wailing on an electric guitar, playing soulful blues licks. I was drawn in immediately and when I went down into the bar, there was Tetsu. He had seen a video of my performance before, so he asked if I would join him for that night's gig. I agreed and we played blues and rock cover songs all night. Shortly after that, I returned to the US and didn’t see Tetsu for another couple of years. When I came back to Japan, I was just starting to do recording work at Rudiez Studios and he booked a session. He showed up with an acoustic guitar and played some very impressive original music. This whole time, I had only thought of Tetsu as a blues guitar player, limited to playing Hendrix covers and such, but during these sessions, I realized that he was actually a true artist and a gifted songwriter. Over the course of the next year, Tetsu refined his original music and brought in song after song. Each new song he brought revealed another side of his artistry.

Lyrics

Freedom Town

Over my head, falling off of my bed My weakling’s dead, remember what I said Inside your head, he said “straight ahead” Deep down in your heart You’re a speed driver, leaf diver Freedom town, over my head Freedom town, falling off of my bed Freedom town, my weakling’s dead Freedom town, remember what I said I said love Sick and tired, you tell me what to do Blow your fuse in your head People, I need your love Your love is shaking my song My song, just up to you people So people, I need your love Inside your mind, go deeper only to find It was always blind, you’re so unkind Speed driver A leaf diver Freedom town, don’t you wanna go? Freedom town, no, you don’t have to pay Freedom town, let your soul Freedom town, play with love My heart’s like jelly shaking in your spoon Meet you there on next full moon People, I need your love Your love is shaking my song My song, just up to you people So people, I need your love People, I need your love Your love is shaking my song My song, just up to you people So people, I need your love Shaking in my song

Emily

Emily play on the corner Yes she play her pretty ukulele Blue neon lights shine behind her And she sang “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere” Patio is wet, no patio ain't dry Waiting for lover's finger and cry Radio in the morning ready to fly From the kichen's window to Davy sky Emily I wish see you again In another time in another rain Cambie there if I could try Smoke will be rising to seagull sky Emily play Emily play Emily play Emily play

Everything

I know you’ve been down so low But dreams stay, can’t let it go When you look so fine I had to stand in the line I play with fire Of your desire And you made my everything Everything upside down Like bombing Everything, everything upside down Want a pretty women, I wanna be rich But day by day, my life is a bitch So close your eyes Won’t you pray for me? But don’t you worry Cause I’m in no hurry To make my everything Everything be alright, tonight Everything, everything be alright Oh yeah, you got to be alright Oh yeah, you got to be alright So close your eyes, I’ll pray for you Don’t you worry, no need to hurry Because your everything Everything, be alright Tonight Everything, everything be alright Tonight Everything, everything be alright Everything, everything Everything, everything Everything be alright Tonight

Church

My baby’s crying It’s an angel’s sighing Don’t you cry You can fly If you’ve got to One more try My picture’s drying I saw my heroes dying So much whys No more lies Now’s the time we face the truth I’m sinking in the rain I can feel no pain Break your balls and chain It takes a love to rain I’m singing in the rain I can feel no pain Break your balls and chain It takes a love to rain My baby’s crying It’s an angel’s sighing Don’t you cry You can fly If you’ve got to One more try
